Holistic Psychiatry

Psyche comes from the Greek word, Psykhe, which means “the soul, mind, spirit or invisible animating entity which occupies the physical body.  Psychiatry, can be understood then, as the treatment of the mind, soul or anima, and body.

My Approach

I use cutting edge and evidence-based medicine to treat a variety of illnesses, including, but not limited to, Anxiety, Depression, PTSD (also trained in Child-Parent psychotherapy for early trauma), OCD, Bipolar illness and Mood disorders, Grief and Loss, Existential Crises, Life Goal assistance, Eating Disorders (not acute), ADHD (previously diagnosed by a neuropsychologist), Attachment and Relationship concerns, and more.

I have experience working with LGBTQ+ and have helped patients walk through the process of gender affirmation treatment and surgery.

As an Italian and Mexican daughter of immigrants I am acutely aware of, and practice, culturally sensitive psychiatry.  I am proficient in Spanish.

I am eager to work with patients who want to move from “surviving” into “thriving” and are willing to do the work needed to make lasting change.

I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, existential therapy, CBT, ERP, DBT, and other forms of psychotherapy in conjunction with medication management and offer individual therapy within your medical appointment.  I am knowledgeable in Complementary and Alternative Medicine as well.

Psychiatric Care:

I offer the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of illnesses, including, Anxiety, Social Anxiety, OCD, PTSD and trauma responses, ADHD (previously diagnosed by a neuropsychologist), Mood disorders, Post-partum and Women’s health, Separation anxiety and early Developmental disorders, such as Autism Spectrum, Attachment issues, Relationship and Divorce, Eating Disorders (not acute), and Grief.  I have a special interest in cultural psychiatry, spiritual psychiatry, and the search for meaning in life, and learning to move from “victim” to “warrior survivor.”  I use a combination of nutritional evaluation, medication management, exercise and sleep education, as well as psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy:

I offer short-term, and long-term psychotherapy, usually in the context of, and in addition to, your medical management and treatment.  I use an integrative approach to therapy that is chosen after evaluation to suit the needs of each individual client.

These techniques range from sensory and grounding techniques, to guided meditation, to cognitive behavioral approaches (CBT) aimed at re-framing negative thinking, exposure and response prevention (ERP) to help challenge rigid OCD and Anxiety thoughts, Habit Reversal training (HRT) aimed at helping you conquer “tics,” as well as supportive and spiritual techniques.  Attachment styles are also often explored together, to help you create more meaningful connections within your relationships.
